URBAN TCM

优本中医

本 běn: root, originthe stroke that marks the root

Our approach理念

Our name is our method.

优 (yōu) means excellence and care. 本 (běn) is the character for a tree, 木, with one extra stroke marking where its root begins.

Together they describe how we practise. More than two thousand years ago the Huangdi Neijing put it simply: 治病必求于本, to heal an illness, seek its root. A stiff neck, poor sleep or a restless gut are signals. We look for the pattern behind them, and treat that.

Your first visit四诊

It begins with listening.

Before any needle or herb, your practitioner uses the four classical examinations to understand your pattern, then explains what they find in plain language.

  1. 望01Observe

Complexion, posture and the tongue, which TCM reads as a map of the body.

  2. 闻02Listen

The voice and breathing, which tell the practitioner about your energy.

  3. 问03Ask

Your history, sleep, appetite, digestion, cycle and what brought you in.

  4. 切04Feel

Pulse reading at both wrists to understand the pattern beneath the symptom.

1

Consult

Your history, a tongue and pulse reading, and an honest explanation of your pattern.

2

Treat

Usually the same day: acupuncture, cupping, tuina or a combination, in a quiet room.

3

Carry on

Herbal formula if needed, plus food, sleep and movement advice for the days between.

The clinic诊所

Questions问答

New to TCM?

Here's what most first-time patients ask. Anything else, just message us.

Ask a question
Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel very little. The needles are far finer than an injection needle; you may notice a brief prick, then a dull, heavy or warm sensation, which is normal. Many patients fall asleep during treatment.

What happens at my first visit?

Your practitioner starts with a full consultation (including tongue and pulse diagnosis), explains what they find, and agrees a treatment plan with you. Treatment usually begins the same day.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing that can be rolled up past the knees and elbows. Towels are provided. Try not to come on an empty stomach or straight after a heavy meal.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the condition and how long you've had it. Recent issues often respond within a few sessions; long-standing ones take a course of treatment. We'll review your progress with you as we go.

Can I have TCM alongside my current medication?

Usually, yes. Tell us about any medication or supplements you take so herbal prescriptions can be chosen safely. TCM complements, and does not replace, the care of your doctor.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed. Just send us a WhatsApp message with your preferred day and time and we'll confirm your slot.
